This Week...
This is Father's Day weekend. Therefore this devotional is entitled: " Under the Father's Feathers."

This may seem like an odd title, but allow me to explain.

First it is important to understand that because of the Cross and our acceptance of what Jesus has provided for us; God is not only our God but also our Father. Wow

This is why our hearts cry out Abba; Father or Daddy;Daddy, etc. (see Romans 8:15)

This brings us to the the feathers we mentioned. In Psalm 91:4 the Scripture declares that:"He shall cover thee with His feathers..."

This applies to the one who is dwelling in the secret place of the Most High. (see verse 1)

This Secret Place of the Most High is the Mercy Seat. In the Old Testament the Cherubim or angels where situated at both ends of the Mercy Seat.(see Exodus 25:18,19) (the Mercy Seat was the lid on the Ark of the Covenant where the blood was applied on the Day of Atonement to cover the people's sins)

In the New Testament the angels were sitting one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had lain after His resurrection. This sitting was declaring that redemption was complete; the work was done.(see John 20:12)

This is why Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem saying that He desired to gather her together the same way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings.(Matthew 23:37)

In other words when we dwell in Jesus and His finished work we are protected under His Protective wings.

Jesus Christ and His redemptive work is our Mercy Seat today.

What a place to dwell. Will you abide there?
