"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." Matthew 5:6

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things (needs in life) shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33 (emphasis mine)

Both of these verses are taken from the sermon on the mount.Jesus delivered this to people who thought that they were righteous.

He tells them to seek His righteousness. The verbs are in the present tense implying that they were to continually seek His righteousness.

When a person receives Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior they receive His right standing as a free gift. It is imperative to consistantly receive His abundance of Grace and gift of righteousness. (see Romans 5:17 Greek tenses)

When a person is not in the mode of receiving His righteousness it is because they are content with their own ability to be right with God.

Constantly allow the Holy Spirit to remind you that you are right with God because of what Jesus accomplished on the Cross. Wow. What a glorious reality. Rejoice in the Lord always:and again I say, rejoice. (see Philippians 4:4)
