This Week...
Jesus declared the following after His resurrection in Luke 24:27. "And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself."
He taught that the Scriptures testify of Himself.(see John 5:39) It is important that we understand God's Word in the light of Jesus Christ and His redemptive work on our behalf.
Many people read the Bible, listen to sermons and still miss Jesus. This point was brought home to me recently in the preface of a book entitled "Awakened By The Spirit" by Ron M. Phillips. The paragraph states:"The Pharisees pressed the grid of their commentaries and traditions on Scripture. Soon they believed their own interpretations were equal to God's Word.
The group wrote the Misnah, a commentary on the Scriptures, and the Gemara, a commentary on the commentaries, and then proclaimed that the Bible was water and the commentaries were wine. They searched the Scriptures, but missed Jesus."(close quote)
This is amazing. Remember God's Word quickened by the Holy Spirit is not a rule book, but God's Word revealing Jesus. You are blessed.
